After the Kangaroo Grounds: University of Sydney campus

This walking tour will highlight the development of the University of Sydney campus, beginning in the 1850s, as an exemplary instance of colonial landscape planning, architecture and institutional formation. We will note the various efforts to build upon and recast its institutional identity over the succeeding 170 years by examining a series of buildings and sites. Stops on the tour will point to key themes in the development of architecture in Sydney and the relationship of those themes to the wider settler colonial project in Australia.

YOUR GUIDE
Dr Cameron Logan is an urban and architectural historian and director of the postgraduate program in Heritage Conservation in the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. His work is concerned with civic culture, public architecture and the political, architectural and urban implications of heritage conservation practice.

TOUR NOTES
1.45pm meet in the Level 2 lobby of the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney for a 2pm start. Tour finishes at the same location.
